Obituary

William Alexander Buchanan, 88, of West Columbia, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Born in Erwin, TN on January 9, 1925, he was a son of the late Dewy and Ethel Barker Buchanan. Mr. Buchanan was a veteran of the US Marine Corps having served in WWII. During the war he was a member of Carlson's Raiders and was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received during the Battle of Guam. Mr. Buchanan was a member of Westside Holiness Church, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Jane Brazell; daughter, Ouida (Greg) Vaillancourt of Brockport, NY; sister, Susan (James) Jones of Saucier, MS; loving grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Buchanan was preceded in death by sisters, Ouida Norris and Nora Jean Henley; and brothers, Buddy, Bobby and Benny Buchanan.

A memorial service for Mr. Buchanan will be held 12 o'clock, Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Westside Holiness Church, with The Rev. Jewel Jeffcoat officiating. The family will receive friends following the service, and friends are invited to view at the funeral home Saturday and Sunday between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm.
