William C. "WC, Bill, Mr Bill, Pop, Billy, Lil Man" Edmonds, Sr. 95, of Columbia, died March 22, 2018. Born in Columbia, on September 4, 1922, he was a son of the late Wilson A. and Vivian Cole Edmonds. Bill served as a radio man on a Navy airship (blimp) during WWII over the North Atlantic. He retired as a car foreman from Norfolk - Southern Railway after 37 years of service, and loved to play golf and watch college baseball and football. He coached boys youth baseball in the Blythewood community for many years. He was a Freemason and a member of the Weymouth United Masonic Lodge, of Weymouth, MA. for 72 years. Mr. Bill was an Honorary Member of the Grand Association of Veteran Railway Employees Chapter No. 2 in Columbia. Bill was also a charter member of Fair Lawn United Methodist Church, and a member of the Faith Dorrah Lever Sunday School Class for many years.
Survivors include his sons, William C. "Bill" Edmonds, Jr. (Melba) and Gary Edmonds (Lydia); a daughter, Carol Luthren (Jerry); grandchildren, Matthew Edmonds (Brannon), Teresa Ellerbee, Tina Cole (Chris), Jennifer Edmonds, Kat Ganofsky, Kimberley Moses (Sam); great grandchildren, Gabriel, Mason, Annie, Harrison and Jake; a sister, Pati Minor; and two special friends, Larry Knox and Kenny McCaw. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Edmonds; and a brother, Michael Edmonds.
The service for Mr. Edmonds will be held 1 o'clock, Monday, March 26th, at Fair Lawn United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Bratton officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
