Mr. William "Bill" F. Donahue, Jr., 100, of Columbia, died Thursday, December 5, 2024. Born in Hampton County, he was a son of the late William F. and Matilda Fergerson Donahue. Bill was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy. He was married to the late Helen Wells Donahue for 68 years. Together, they started Donahue's Auto Service in 1959. Bill served as South Carolina President of the Independent Garage Owner's Association and National President of the Automotive Service Association. Bill loved his church, North Trenholm Baptist, and was attending until very recently. He served on many of the committees and enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Bill enjoyed working and spending time on his farm. He also enjoyed fishing and hosting fish fries for his Sunday school class. When he wasn't fishing or on the farm, Bill loved spending time with his wife, Helen.
Survivors include his four sons, Danny Donahue (Beth), Gerald Donahue (Ann), Mike Donahue (Dale), James Donahue (Carolyn); 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Candace Roth.
A service will be held, Monday, December 9th, at 12:30 o'clock, at North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6515 Trenholm Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. The burial will be in Fort Jackson National Cemetery following the service.
Memorials may be given to North Trenholm Baptist Church.
The family is thankful for the love and friendship of Ms. Linda Dove. The family also appreciates the loving care received from the staff of The Palmettos on Parklane and Empyrean Hospice.
