William H. Furr, Jr., 83, of Columbia, died on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. Born in Concord, NC on June 20, 1938, he was a son of the late William H. Furr, Sr. and Christine Ethel Jane Cauble. He began a military career in 1956, and throughout his career, was awarded numerous awards/medals to include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. SGM Furr retired in 1980 after serving over 23 years in the United States Army. He then went on to be an instructor at the Adjutant General School until 2007.

Survivors include his son, Jeffrey H. Furr; daughter, Kimberly E. Briggs; grandchildren, Mary Beth Nexsen (Neal Price) and Brandon Furr; great-granddaughter, Kate Price; and brother, Frank Furr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Merildean Furr and sister, Ann Gillespie.

The graveside service will be held at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, July 17th, at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Rd, Columbia, SC. Memories and condolences may be shared at ShivesFuneralHome.com
