William "Bill" Grimes, 64, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023. Born on May 18, 1958, in Union City, Ohio, he was the son of John Harvey Grimes and the late Betty Jean Grimes.

After graduating from Mississinawa Valley High School, Bill served his country as a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy. After serving in the Navy for 22 years, Bill became a real estate agent until his retirement. He loved the outdoors, his beagle Copperhead, but most of all, his loving family. During retirement, he spent most of his time working on his garden, spending time with his grandchildren and hosting family dinners. Bill was passionate about his country, and was a loyal Republican. He loved to read, had a large collection of books, and never traveled without one. His strong convictions, hardworking spirit, and sense of humor will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Song P. Grimes; children, William John Grimes, Song "Angela" Grimes (Jayson Busbee); grand-children, Mi Young Bellows, Jordyn Busbee, Hannah Busbee; father, John Grimes; niece, Tia Stevens (Stewart Stevens); great-nieces, Lauryn Pedio and Gabbie Pedigo; and great nephew, Aaron Peetz. In addition to his mother, Betty Jean Grimes, Bill is preceded in death by his brother, John Michael "Mike" Grimes, and sister- in- law, Brenda Grimes.

The funeral service for Mr. Grimes will be held at 11 o'clock on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Extension, Columbia, SC. Burial will immediately follow the service at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229. A visitation will be held from 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel.
