William Harold "Bill" Rhodes, Sr., 80, of Pontiac, died Monday, January 21, 2019. Born on July 19, 1938, in Rock Hill, SC, he was the son of the late William Hansell and Lois Sims Rhodes. Bill was a graduate of Dentsville High School and attended Clemson University. He was a member of Spring Valley Baptist Church and a former member of North Trenholm Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School. Bill was the owner and proprietor of Leisure Collections, Inc., in Pontiac and later owned and operated Rabon Road Self Storage until his retirement. Bill always enjoyed his "Happy Hour" at Lizard's Thicket, from 10 until about 12 everyday, where he shared many cups of coffee, laughs and memories with everyone.
Survivors include his wife, June Roof Rhodes, of the home; son, W.H "Dusty" Rhodes, Jr., and his wife, Kellie, of Columbia; step-daughter, Pamela "Pam" R. Barton, and her husband, Tom, of New Bern, NC; step-grandchildren, Heather Barton, of Long Beach, CA and Tab Barton, Jr., of Atlantic Beach, NC; and a brother-in-law, Leo Ross (Wanda). In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his first wife of over 40 years, Iris Nelson Rhodes; a daughter, Wendy Elizabeth Rhodes; and a sister, Patsy Staples.
The funeral service for Mr. Rhodes will be held 12 o'clock, Friday, January 25th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Burial will follow the service in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 until 7 o'clock at the funeral home.
