William Herman Schneider, 93, of West Columbia, SC, died Saturday, February 25, 2023. William was born to William Florian Schneider and Clare Intemann Schneider on November 10, 1929, in Rockville Centre, NY.
In addition to his parents, William is preceded in death by his sister, Clare Ann (Al †).
William Schneider is survived by his wife, Yvonne, his children, Carl, Catherine (Jim), and Chris (David †); his grandchildren, Jamie (Asha), Jenni (Zack), Andrew, Aaron, Matthew and Zoe; and his great grandchildren, Titus, James, and Freya; and his former daughter-in-law, Jan.
William Schneider was a member at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Columbia. He graduated from Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, FL, in 1947. He then graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1951 and then began his career with Union Carbide Plastics. In 1953, William was drafted into the U.S. Army and served until 1955 and then returned to work at Union Carbide. In 1954, William married the love of his life, Yvonne Roueche. In 1969, William became the Engineering Department Head at Southern Plastics Co. in West Columbia until he retired in 1996. In his career, he will be best remembered for his redesign of the Dicon Embossed lighting panels which earned him the name "Dicon Bill." William and Yvonne were very avid bowlers and they loved to sing in various church choirs until they moved into Laurel Crest in 2016.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Laurel Crest Foundation Employee Appreciation Fund, PCSC 2817 Ashland Rd., Columbia, SC 29210 (list "Assisted Living" on memo line of check).
A memorial service for Mr. William H. Schneider will be held at a later date. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel is assisting the family.
