Mr. White, known to most as Scott, was born and raised in Charlotte, N.C.
A Stoic. A Christian. Fiercely independent and deeply opinionated.
He worked hard, he played hard, often combining the two.
A head turner, as his energy preceded his incredible beauty by at least a hundred yards. He enjoyed a warm fire with a fine cigar and a fine French wine.
Those who loved him knew him as pure genius, a true renaissance man.
A student of the natural world, heirloom gardener and seed saver, horse whisperer, bird watcher, artist and designer, photographer, author of many immersive and visceral writings, and a collector and admirer of antiques, handicrafts, relics and shards of the past. He had a profound connection to the history of the land, his roots ran deep, and he regularly explored wild woods, swamps, mountains and waterways of his beloved South. He watched sunrises, sunsets, and many baseball games.
Mr. White was a bibliophile with an impressive, many thousand volume Natural History library, which will remain in conservation.
He also, at one time, had hundreds of rare and obscure albums of world music, and first pressings of Delta Blues.
He learned many new things every day, often saying with deep humility, "The most interesting people are merely interested in the World."
He was a world traveler and student of the best artists, designers, and architects on the planet.
His memory was inexhaustible, as he could retain almost everything he learned from books, Saturday afternoon NPR radio shows, and the many, and varied conferences he attended. He was excited about every truly valuable thing in this world.
He loved his feet in the soil, and his skin in the sun. He paid attention.
Recently, a fellow architect and dear friend said, "He saw things the rest of us couldn't see."
Truly, he lived inside his magnificent mind, his imagination, creating beauty until his last day on this Earthly plane.
He was an impatient teacher, a passionate creator, and an uplifter of those less fortunate.
He revealed to few his enormous, constantly aching heart. He knew he would never see it all, feel it all, learn it all, or build it all to his specifications of propriety.
He was a pure Southern Gentleman, traditional and romantic, a wonderful chef, with a strong belief people should "dress for supper", eat by candlelight, and give thanks for the bounty on the table.
He knew from whence he came and had surety of where he was going.
Mr. White was preceded in death by his father, William (Bill) White, and his Uncle Jack Lemonds, among many other ancestors.
He is grieved by the center of his Father's world, his beloved, beautiful son, an upstanding young man of value and morals in his own right, Liam Grayson (19).
Also missed greatly by two sons adopted by the heart, Evan (31) and Avery (28). (Their Mother, Patricia Foley).
He is also mourned woefully by his Widow, Kerry Ann. To her, he is always present, relevant, and everlasting. To her, he is Chief White Tree, and no amount of respect is adequate for this bold, adventurous Warrior.
Mr. White is survived by his mother, Doris White, his siblings Julie Richardt (William), Wayne White, and Christopher White (Kristin). Also numerous Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins miss him tremendously.
A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Rd., Charlotte, N.C. 28201.
