William Woods Wilson, 87, of Columbia, died Saturday, January 6, 2018. Born in Laurens, SC, on March 2, 1930, he was a son of the late Ralph Traywick Wilson, Sr., and Clara Woods Wilson. Billy attended Wofford College, where he played on the golf team. Throughout his life, he followed Wofford athletics with intense interest. A member of Virginia Wingard United Methodist Church and a former member of Mid Carolina Country Club, Billy was a diehard Washington Redskins fan and an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He retired from the SC Department of Revenue after 33 years of service.
In 1955 he married his love, JoAnne McLaughlin Wilson, and they had four sons: Randy Wilson (Carol), Lane Wilson (Patricia), Blair Wilson (Lisa) and Dan Wilson. Mr. Wilson was blessed with five grandchildren, Malissa Etheredge (Chris), Ashlee Wilson (Dylan), Julia Wilson (Ryan), John Wilson, and Paul Wilson; and one great-granddaughter, Clara Lee Etheredge.
The graveside service for Mr. Wilson will be held at 2 o'clock on Tuesday, January 9th, at Salem Presbyterian Church, 276 State Hwy 215N, Blair, SC, with the Rev. Scott Smoak officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 until 12:30 o'clock at Virginia Wingard United Methodist Church.
