William Charles York, 83, of Columbia, died Sunday, October 29, 2017. Born in Painesville, Ohio on February 25, 1934, he was a son of the late James Edward and Charlotte Rychlik York.
He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University, with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration.
His passion was business and manufacturing, and he had a long successful career in both. Besides lengthy tenures as a vice president at both True Temper Corp. and Diversified Products Inc., he facilitated the buying and selling of small businesses through Sunbelt Brokers, for the last 20 years. His "work" was his "play." He never retired. However, he will be most remembered for his impish sense of playfulness and humor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol Collins York; his children, David Edward York (Robin Highberg) and Susan York Wade (Monty Fouts); and grandsons, Max Wade and Jordan Lovinger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, James York; and grandson, Neil William York.
The service for Mr. York will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday, November 4th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with Dr. Wendell Estep officiating. A reception will follow at The Members Club at WildeWood Clubhouse, 90 Mallet Hill Road, Columbia.
