Wilson Henry Lear ll., 90, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 8, 2018.
Mr. Lear was born in Abington, PA, on November 6, 1927, to Morgan H. and Frances E. Lear. He was the beloved husband of Jane G. Lear for 67 years and the beloved father of Wilson H. Lear, III., (deceased) David C. Lear (Laura), Suzanne L. Keenan, and Jennifer L. Naumann (Toby).
He is survived by 7 grandchildren; McNeel, Wilson, Lauren, Hunter, Jacob, Luke, and Zachary; 4 great-grandchildren, Landon, Mason, Owen and Theo. He is predeceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. His surviving brother-in-law is Mr. Albert Wacker of Spring Hill, FL.
Mr. Lear graduated from Abington High School, Abington, PA and Washington & Lee University, Lexington VA where he was president of his fraternity, Delta Tau Delta in 1950. He was captain of the Beach Patrol at Stone Harbor, NJ from 1949-50 and was an Army Veteran in WWII serving in GHQ, Tokyo, Japan, retiring from Champion International as an Area Manager.
In 1972 he served as the Chairman of Committee of 100; State Treasure of the Mental Health Association for 8 years; State board of Directors for the Home Bldg. Association. Mr. Lear was a former member of Spring Valley and Forest Lake Country Clubs. He was a Charter Member of Northeast Presbyterian Church, an Elder Emeritus, a Trustee of Palmetto Presbytery; a General Assembly Commissioner to Presbytery, a General Assembly Commissioner to Christian Education Committee and a member of the Good News Sunday School Class, Senior Men's Bible Study, and a Prayer Line Warrior.
Wil was very proud of his family and loved his church, serving in it even when he was limited by his vision.
The service for Mr. Lear will be held at 2 o'clock, Tuesday, March 13th at Northeast Presbyterian Church with Dr. George D. Crow, III officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock in the church atrium. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
