Winfred Dunnavant (Winnie) Dew, 91, of Columbia, died peacefully on April 16, 2025 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Winnie was born in Petersburg, Virginia on October 5, 1933 and lived there until she moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend nursing school. It was there that she met the love of her life, Ronald Dew, and soon after their first date, Winnie and Ron got married. They lived 70 wonderful years together in Columbia until his death in 2022. During those years, Winnie gave her life to God, her husband and her children.
Winnie was a member of First Baptist Church for many years spending her Sundays loving on babies in the nursery. In 2007, she and Ron became members of Eastminster Presbyterian church, and she was involved in Sunday school and the Prayer Shawl knitting group.
Winnie was a beautiful person both inside and out, ad she shared her love and special talents with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly called her "Mimi".
Winnie was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Dew; and sons, Christopher E. Dew and Scott D. Dew.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura D. Smith (Chip) and their children, Sarah E. Smith, Mills Smith (Hannah), and Parrish E. Smith (Kelsey); great-grandchildren Amelia, Georgia and Ellis Smith; Beth D. McMullan (Cam) and their daughters, Emily McMullan and Becca M. Eure (Josh); and Chris's daughters, Chandler D. Allen (Will) and Ellison Dew (Kyle Duffy).
The family would like to express their appreciation to Cindy Hughes and all of the wonderful staff at Eden Terrace in Spartanburg, S.C. for their devotion and care, and also to Interim Hospice of Greenville for their devotion to Winnie.
The memorial service will be held on Monday, April 28th, at 11 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with Rev. Brad Smith officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC, 29204; or to a charity of choice.
