Winifred Bumgardner Atkinson, entered into the Lord's Eternal Kingdom on December 15, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Winifred was born on September 3, 1934 to James and Frances Mae Bumgardner. Winifred was fondly called "Winnie" by her loved ones.

She graduated from Sarah J Hale in 1952, and then attended The Fashion Institute of Technology where she studied fashion art and design. Winnie loved to sew and create fashionable outfits for herself as well as others.

Winnie was a member of Siloam Presbyterian Church. On April 22, 1961 Winnie married Kenneth George Atkinson, and from this union four daughters were born. Winnie, a faithful and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother leaves to mourn her loving husband, Kenneth; four daughters, Selina Lindo, Melissa Summers, Jolanda Neely and Jeanette Atkinson; a son-in-law, Darren Neely; eight grandchildren, Tiara Lindo, Tatiana Summers, Stephen Lindo, Darielle Neely, Kaylah Summers, Tyrell Lindo, Dante Caldwell and Darren Neely Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Atkinson and Irma Bumgardner; three brothers-in-law, Vincent, Audley and Bruce Atkinson; as well as nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

We will miss laughing with our beloved Winnie, while cracking crabs and playing Pokeno at the kitchen table, day long shopping sprees, and listening to you fuss with Popi in the kitchen over who is a better cook. We know that you are in a better place and watching over us from heaven. All the things we did together creating wonderful memories will be cherished forever.

God blessed us with you to give us countless joy and guide our lives but then your work was done and he called you to his side to live with him in peace and happiness.

Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I'll miss you until we meet again. We will love and miss you always and forever.

A service will be held 12 o'clock, Wednesday, December 20th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with the Rev. Dr. Jack Heinsohn officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 11 o'clock.
