Yvonne Gunter Brown, 88, of Columbia, died Thursday, January 4, 2024. Born December 1, 1935, in Pelion, SC, she was a daughter of the late Alonzo and Stellie Rawls Gunter.

Mrs. Brown's greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed family trips to the beach and Spring Break vacations with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her compassion, her friendly disposition, and her ability to never meet a stranger. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Brown had a prosperous career with Shakespeare, where she worked in the shipping and receiving department. She was of the Baptist faith and had most recently been attending Shandon Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Yvette Brown Trapp (Duwayne) of Columbia and James Mathew "Matt" Brown, Jr. of Columbia. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Seth Daniel Trapp and Faith-Claire Trapp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Mathew Brown, Sr.; brothers, Henry Lee Gunter, Houston Gunter, and Marion "Bo" Gunter, as well as her sister, Mildred Gunter.

The funeral service for Mrs. Brown will be held at 11 o'clock Monday, January 8th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC with Rev. Dr. David S. Parks officiating. Burial will follow at 12:30 o'clock at Boiling Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2373 Calks Ferry Rd, Lexington, SC.

The family will greet guests from 4 until 6 o'clock Sunday at the funeral home.
