Yvonne "Bonnie" Marie Roueche Schneider, 91, peacefully passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023, in the assisted living center at Laurel Crest Retirement Community in West Columbia. Born in Washington, D.C., she was the only child to late Lawrence B. Roueche and Marie Forester Roueche.
In addition to her parents, Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 69 years, William "Bill" Herman Schneider, who passed away in February.
Bonnie is survived by her children, Carl, Catherine (Jim), and Chris (David †); her grandchildren, Jamie (Asha), Jenni (Zack), Andrew, Aaron, Matthew and Zoe; and her great grandchildren, Titus, James, and Freya Marie (Marie in honor of Bonnie, her great nana); and her former daughter-in-law, Jan.
Bonnie graduated from Central Junior-Senior High School in Washington, D.C. Soon after graduation, her family moved to Atlanta, GA. There she attended Massey Business College and was then employed with Southern Bell.
While living in Atlanta Bonnie met Bill, the love of her life, at a dance held at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer when Bill was stationed at Fort McPherson Army Base. On May 1, 1954, they were married at that same church.
When Bill's service to the army was completed they moved to New Jersey and started a family. Bill's work then took them to Florida and then in 1969, to South Carolina.
Bonnie went on to work for South Carolina Land Resources Commission and held numerous positions throughout the years until her retirement. While there she served on the National Soil Stewardship Committee of the National Association of Conservation Districts as a writer of important Soil Stewardship Observance material that was used by conservationists in every state for a number of years. She was also an advisor to the Auxiliary of the National Association of Conservation Districts. The South Carolina Conservation Districts Auxiliary was the largest in the nation for many years.
Bonnie had a love for poetry and painting with pastels and watercolors. She, along with her husband, were very involved members of Redeemer Lutheran Church where they sang in the choir for many years. Bonnie was a member of the Nadine Circle while there. She was also a member of the Ruth Circle at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. Both also were very avid bowlers until they moved into Laurel Crest in 2016.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Laurel Crest Foundation Employee Appreciation Fund, PCSC 2817 Ashland Rd., Columbia, SC 29210 (list "Assisted Living" on memo line of check).
