Zion Oyedapo Akinrefon, 4, died Wednesday, May 22, 2019. Zion was born on Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado, a son of Oyeyemi Akanmu Akinrefon and Rena Latrice Smith Akinrefon.
Zion was an adventurous young boy who loved being outside and talking his parents into getting him a new pair of shoes. He especially enjoyed being on the playground, riding his bicycle, or playing with all the neighborhood children. When Zion was inside, he could pass the time with his favorite cartoons; PJ Masks, Masha and the Bear, and Booba. Zion was fond of all the superheroes; but Spiderman was his all-time favorite. Zion loved to dance, and his favorite song was Baby shark. Zion was fourth of five children (Oyeyemi's first child) and had an incredible bond with all his siblings. Zion had a wonderful bond with his mom but he was definitely considered a "Daddy's Boy" and given the opportunity was never far away from his Dad.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his siblings, Jalil Shabazz, Jahid Shabazz, Imani Shabazz, and Ajayi Oyeyemi Akinrefon; as well as his paternal grandmother, Janet Ajibola Akinrefon. He is also survived by his four uncles; Demone Smith, Oyewale Akinrefon (Miriam), Oyekunle Akinrefon (Brittni), and Gino Cruse Jr; and three aunts, Latasha Lyons, Felicia Smith, and Oyebola Sofolahon, 18 cousins and one great cousin. Zion was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Titus Oyedapo Akinrefon and his maternal grandparents, Gino Cruse and Mary Ann Beaver.
